When i coonect my usb to my computer it shows its statue but not open it shows to format it?

did you try contained by any other PC, if its showing same error than usb drive must be having some hardware problem. try to install manually if you are using win98 bcoz it doesnt support plug and play.
check the lock unlock push button, ( some usb drive comes with lock unlock.)

I had this problem a few days ago. Restart the computer (with the usb item not plugged in) and afterwards try again. This is what I did and it was fine afterwards.
