Can anyone put in the picture me which would be a better video card: A PNY 8600 256 mb card or a PNY 7600 512 mb card?
Answer:
The 8600 supports DirectX 10, while the 7600 does not. To be honest though, it doesn't seem to me approaching your video card's specifications would be the reason your computer is locking up during slide shows. It could be a video card driver issue, or something close to a bloated Windows registry if it's been a long time since you reformatted and reinstalled Windows.
You can look for the most modern video card drivers on these sites, depending on the type of card you have:
www.ati.com
www.nvidia.com
If that doesn't fix it, consider some cleaning utilities such as CCleaner, Advanced System Optimizer, and RegSeeker.
They are available here:

If you still want to upgrade your video card, this guide should be adjectives:

a pny8600 256 mb card is better
8600 is much better, 7600 would be a bad buy right immediately
If you only do slides and your PC locks up, likelihood are the problem is within your PC or Windows.
4GB of memory, very soon... you sure about this ? as most Dells never take off the factory with more than 2GB due to the mode XP/2000 addresses the memory map, unless you are running 64bit Windows, this may be one of the effect to your problems, as normally Windows requires PCI memory allocation.
The run into doesn't matter. The 8600 is slightly faster than the 7600.
Grrrr! grrrr! all right big daddy I would say the 512 mb! Grrrrr!raaar!
