Windows 98 memory enquiry?

what is the max recognisable memory on window 98?
i have hear it wont recognize anything above 512mb knock against,and as i am considering dual booting my xp p.c with window 98(for gaming purposes) and i have 1.5gb ddr push will 98 recognize as much as 1.5gb

P.S. I don't believe Win XP's compatibility mode is adjectives that it is hyped up to be.

I have 1gb ddr strike and dual boot 98 and Xp with no problem use compatability mode surrounded by xp for the older 98 programs
