Why Wouldn't It Take My Flash Drive?
It works on my home computer, a two year aged Gateway. The school have Dells. I'm not sure how new they are, but they own "Vista Compatible" stickers on front.
We're supposed to have the drives, so I doubt within would be some sort of lock on the ports.

Generally, Dell's USB ports are 'upside down' so inserting yours upside down should have worked. Now, Dell is also not respectable for having USB slots at odd angles, so you might have to put it within upside down and at a 45 degree angle...
try it surrounded by a different computer at home or email it to yourself from youre school email btw youre conservatory has vista compatible comps, how lucky. if that doesnt work you can ask the computer lab supervisor
I work as a technician for a arts school district. The USB port that you were trying to use may enjoy been shabby or the location of the USB ports is in an outlandish place and can't accomodate the size/shape or your flash drive. Try a different computer tomorrow or ask the teacher. Also, your conservatory may have a space on the server for you to rescue your work. Save it there until you can integer out why your flash drive won't work.
If it goes within and doesn't pop up or the computer doens't see it, you will need to contact your tech support or ask a faculty partaker. Most cases, you need to disconnect a server drive so you can use your flash drive. (simple project and it is fixed when you log back in)
If the computer is configured so the usb ports are 1.0, they wont adopt usb devices that have publication 1.1 usb interfaces.
You can install a usb interface card in elder pcs so they can see the newer usb devices.
the school might own disabled the usb ports for security reason (to prevent students from uploading anything malicious). have you spoken near other students, do theirs work ok?
