My BEST solution to this question would be to download CCleaner and run it. You may own so many temp files or corrupted files hogging space.
Also, running a "Disk Cleanup" may be a right idea. You can do this by right clicking the specified drive, clcik properties, later clcik "Disk Cleanup".

Just buy a portable WD disk drive for like 89.00 that you can use for storage, that will free up some space on your C Drive.
I mull over the idea for a external complicated drive is the way to jump. I have two of them, one for historic documents and one for media related pictures, video, etc. This leaves your main CPU complex drive free for more important things.
