Could be you call for a driver for it (though XP has various USB flash drive drivers included). Visit the manufacturer's web site and look for downloads. BTW, some flash drives enjoy a _tiny_ write protect switch; be sure the drive is not protected. You might also unplug all other USB devices; it is unlikely but possible in attendance is a conflict, or the power draw on the bus is excessive.
It's possible that its broken. If it has warranty, turn it contained by for a new one.
