an external hard drive largely is slower at writing files to disk then an internal strong drive. they can usually be broken easier due to no protection of the main box as very well. but the good entry is you can take it where on earth ever you want without pulling your computer apart! but consequently its able to be lost easier....
You are confusing memory and storage space. RAM = Memory Disk = Storage Space.

if you merely want to increase the disk space of your computer and without other principle then i suggest you buy the internal firm disk ,but if you want to use the hard disk to reclaim data and afterwards can take it out to other place next external harddrive is more suitable and convinient ...... the disadvantage i think I don`t know external harddrive will expensive a bit than internal one....

It can get knock over which is not good. A angelic point is if you change computers you can move files over profusely quicker to the other computer. It also depends on how proficient you are at fitting a new internal drive & also do you close to taking the computer apart to do it!
Delete all the files that you dont requirement and dont use. Go on disk refragmenter and make some more room next to the space you have departed.
