Why does my workstation crash when i put my cam on?

If it's a USB cam, try a different USB port. If it still happen, your power supply might be too weak to feel the extra stress. If you have anything else plugged into a USB port remove them. You may hold to upgrade your power supply.
One of the most common reason why a PC crashes is because it cannot detect the new hardware (Web Camera).
For a hardware to work these are what it take:
1. The Hardware
2. A driver
3. A firmware (the Software/ Programs / Applications)
So, it may crash due to
1. Faulty hardware
2. Incompatible driver
3. Corrupted firmware / Software / Programs / Applications
I suggest that you try to install the Web Camera's driver again. If drivers and hardware is confirmed okay, it may be caused by the software or Application i.e. trying to communicate with the network camera.
