Graphics card added but not glad near it?

i freshly had a couple of things done to my computer,more tough drive etc.my computer is not that old possibly 12 months,am running xp.colour etc on computer is very appropriate but when i play a video file is clear but amazingly dark even tried vlc medium player but still very obscurity,my moniter settings are fine,as i said only when play video,anyway fixed when i got other things done would catch a graphics card added was told this would reorganize this is a inno 3d 256mb fx 5500 8x agp graphics card,there be no improvement surrounded by fact seem a little more dark,am very dissapointed be a waste of money.setting for video card seem to be good.any suggestions.

If your imaginative onboard video is Intel GMA, the default video overlay tend to be dark. Contrast is at 50 and brightness is enormously low. Try playing around with the controls to suit your zest.
hmm. sounds more like a monitor issue. conceivably it's defective?

try hooking it up to a different monitor and see what happens...
Have you really check through the settings of your video player (whatever you are using)?

Can it be because that one videos own a darker standard? Have you really tried with ALL sorts of video and compare the outcome?
Go into the GUI for the video card and adjust the settings there. Make sure that card is compatible beside your board because, I believe its the VooDoo card that runs on the old AGP boards and take more power and if you run it on a newer board that takes the lower voltage cards you will be really discontent when it fries your motherboard.
