is it worth getting at this point? Its be out for some time and i would have figure that they would move on to the GeForce 9 series sometime during November-December (which is just about the same time i want to build my untried computer)

Once the new series comes out, expect it to be pricey. 8800GTX prices would afterwards start dropping. I'll buy an 8800 after the holidays.
Unless your gonna be doing some intense graphic editing, that card is gonna bequeath you plenty of power. Take the money you would have spent on a 9 series and put it into your processor, RAM or nouns card. Thats where you're gonna run into bottlenecks.
