Answer:
PC RAM is normally best installed contained by matched pairs. Given that the RAM is in slots you stated I would a short time ago use the empty slots and boot it up. Failing that you call for to look in the almanac about the slot configuration for your specific PC. Adding bright memory to a PC is OK most mistakes is where society buy memory of a different speed to that which is already installed. In most case this still works but it can throw up strange things. Don't forget to alter you Virtual Memory size if you are totalling more RAM. This is important if you want to read the dump logs if the system reports a problem. You get to Virtual Memory by right clicking my computer - select properties, next the advanced tab and select settings button in the presentation section. In the enactment window select the advanced tab and click on the "change" button - the rest is trouble-free to see. I recommend selecting "System manage Size" and let window do its thing. Hope this help.
What model pc do you hold, its on the back of the notebook.
If its a home build, what model of motherboard do you have.

This can with the sole purpose be answered by looking at the specs for the board...

email, or messenger me this info and ill try to sustain you figure it out..
I would put the 1gb within slots 1-2 and 512mb in 3-4. IMO
depends on the notebook manufacturer. if your current config is as you state afterwards when you add the superfluous (matched pair) of 512 then those will stir in slots 3 and 4. funky engineers do that sometimes for some aim
