External Hard Drive appears as DVD-RW Drive?

My friend just now bought a Western Digital 160 GB External Hard Drive. She hooked it up to her laptop (Windows XP OS) using USB. It self installed, but appears in My Computer as a DVD drive instead of a External Hard Drive. Any impression what is wrong?

Also, would going to (rt click)My Computer -> Manage -> Disk Management Allow her to change the drive type or purely the letter? (I never have this problem, so I am new to it)

Your DVD drive have always be there as a removable device. This have nothing to do near the external HD. This is common near all laptops. Click on the god to remove hardware (next to the clock) and you will see 2 items there, one is the DVD drive the other is the HD.
