I've got my eye on an ebay index, selling some ram. This is what it states:
2 x 512mb pieces
DDR PC-2100R
266 mhz
184 pins
Registered memory
MT18VDDT6472G-265C3
If I bought these knock against sticks, and got them put contained by my boyfriend's computer, would they work okay and be compatible?

probably not you involve to do a search contained by ebay with these exact words PC2700 DDR SDRAM, you inevitability to stick with exactly what you get just bigger memory, ie 512mb or 1gb.
it would work, but it that knock against is running at pc2100, thats quite slow compared to todays standards.
if you b/f's laptop has 1256mb of run into , we must assume it has 1 slot of 1 see and 1 256mb.
Most older pc's with the sole purpose have 2 run into slots, so you might be buying that ram for nought anyway...
RFC is incorrect below me, the speed is irrevelent, however if you have 1 card running at 2700 and the other at 3200 the speed of BOTH the bump will only run at 2700, the speed does NOT indicate the compatabily unless your conversation DDR2 ram which can run at pc4000 speed
that bump is not a step up... go to your local laptop store and buy another 1 gig card (will cost you roughly speaking 70-80 pounds) and make sure that the run into speed is PC3200 as this will help increase efficacy...

That depends on if there are a further 2 slots availible. Each chip requires 1 slot, unless you are planning on binning the 256 meg chip. The motherboard can manipulate PC2700, so PC2100 wont be a problem. However you really should try to find a single chip if possible, and trying to find 1 specifically also PC2700, (again unless you are binning the 256 meg) to keep up the bus speed. If you mix and clash speeds, the ram will run at the slowest chip's speed. i.e, it will run at PC2100 instead of PC2700. If memory serves me, thats just about a 33Mhz drop off. Also Unregistered is also usually a better hypothesis, atleast in my belief.

hi within its not recomended you buy them online as it may not be compatable for your pc as they tale on ebay so much what i would do is go to workstation world or any other pc shop and catch the ram updated externaly as this is a more power and speed efficant
Go to the DELL Website which is www.dell.co.uk/ and within the search pole type MEMORY .Have your system scanned and later go surrounded by to the DELL COMPUTER OWNERS MANUAL and you will be able to see EXACTLY what memory is installed and what the maximum amount is. Also drop by www.crucial.com and have your memory scan. The result should match the information provided surrounded by your owners manual.
I wouldn't recommend the ones your looking at for starters its solitary pc2100 so its slower and it also happends to be Registered you don't want that either as registered memory is for servers. You obligation to look for PC2700 Unregistered Unbuffered RAM. I recommend Corsair or Kingston they have polite modules for decent prices also they would be capable of help you pick whats right for your appliance.
1 gb might help,but 266 mhz is not briskly enough.
it might work properly.and programs may run smoothly too.but they wont be what you send for "fast".
look for a 400mhz pc700.if u cant afford that,go on beside what u've got.
