Plugging within Firewire Device Causes Immediate PC Power-Off!?

I enjoy a Mcally external hard drive pen with Firewire ports. When I plug it within to a firewire port, the PC powers off rapidly. This happens most times, but not respectively time I plug it in. It doesn't issue if the enclosure is powered up or not. I tried different PC firewire ports - same issue. If I plug the device surrounded by with the PC sour, it starts up no problem, and I can use the hard drive lacking issues.

I built the PC myself, if that makes any difference...

Any concept? Thanks.

Answer:
It does make fairly a difference. If you wired the ports to the motherboard insecurely or incorrectly it can cause the system to spontaneously shut down. I've done this a few times myself when building systems. You might want to run the system apart and refer to the motherboard manual and the casing instructions to ensure all your cable are in the correct direct positives and negatives surrounded by the right pins.
