I hold a query roughly speaking wireless cards...?

Its compassionate of a long story, but here it is: Im going to get a desktop computer, and I want highspeed internet, and we already own it downstairs on that comp. And I called up our internet provider (Bresnan Communications.), and they said that they are simply allowed to give respectively house 1 modem. So Im thinking about getting a wireless card and a wireless router. But the article is, Im just not sure if you can put a wireless card contained by a desktop. (I know its dumb of me, but Im just not aware with them). So the sound out is, is it possible to put a wireless card in my spanking new desktop? And if I use a router, how will it affect my internet speed and performance??

As a corporate framework engineer - next to all available wifi cert's (CWNA, CWNE, CWSP, WiMax) I can give an account you exactly what you need to know - I'm not in recent times an average home user ;)

Depending on your budget you can either acquire a good Wireless G router or better nonetheless a Wireless-N router. Wifi operates on channel (1-11) each using 22 different frequency "bands". For example... Using focus 1 will use 2,400-2,422Mhz and will transmit on each 1Mhz "band" simutaniously...

Wireless-N have increased this number to 40 (wideband) allowing for more data transmittion. The unbeatable theoretical speeds are 54Mbps for wifi-g and 300-400Mbps for wifi-n :)

Stay far far away from D-link - Netgear is great and so is Linksys! I one-sidedly used to use D-link's DI-524 (G) router with RoadRunner's "Turbo" 8Mbps service. With my laptop connected at 54Mbps 10 ft away from the router - I be only competent to transmit/recieve at 2.1Mbps!! I upgraded to a Linksys WRT54GS, with the laptop surrounded by the same place connected at 54Mbps I be able to realize speeds of 2.4-2.5Mbps.

So, as others have stated "you won't interest a drop in speed" they are completely wrong. Since Wifi B/G/N adjectives operate at 2.4Ghz you have interferance from your Microwave, Cordless phones, neighbor's wifi routers, and any other X10 device!!

When I upgraded to my WRT-330N router I be able to recieve at speeds in good health over 8Mbps using wideband - I HIGHLY suggest using a Wifi-N router!!

Now, when purchasing a card the following types are available: PCI, PCIe, USB, PCMCIA. You can use any except for the PCMCIA (laptops only), and the PCIe is suggested if your computer supports it, otherwise use a PCI. USB isn't nearly as good!!

Ok, presently that you've got your equipment and enjoy set up the card on your computer it will scan for routers in the nouns. It will show the neighbor's routers by name and trough. By default the routers are set to ch. 6 - You want to find out what channel surrounding people are on first. If they are adjectives on 6 you can set your router to channel 1 or 11 short picking up interferance which will give you the best speeds!

You also want to formulate sure that your antenna's are aimed correctly. Most routers will come with an omni-directional antenna that of late looks like a short piece of plastic. The signal is transmitted outward from this antenna so you want to sort sure the "sides" of the antenna are pointing at eachother if that makes sense...

I realize this is closely of information for someone who's never set up wifi before, so if you own any questions get the impression free to send me a message and I'll wander you through it!!

Hope this helps!
Of course you can use a card surrounded by a desktop.. and it wont change speed much if at adjectives. routers do not limit speeds per port.
economically yes you can get a wireless card for your computer, it will probably fit into one of your existing PCI slots on your motherboard. The best bet is to net sure your router is wireless G capable (not of late B). Same with the card.
yes you can attain a wireless card for your new desktop. simply buy a "wireless USB adapter"

the wireless router will not slow down ur internet connection speed unless both the computers are downloading

goodluck.
linksys own good products
and so does D-Link
You can achieve a card and if you want even one that hooks to a usb port, you don't even have to depart the computer.
Normal users will notice awfully little difference.
But if you download large files, 1 Gb is big, a poweruser would notice the difference.
