Can the built-in microphones on webcams work as regular computer microphones?

A lot of webcams own microphones built-in to them. If I don't want to buy a separate microphone, will the microphone in the webcam be capable of act as a regular microphone? For voice recordings and stuff and not video?

It will work, but the audio element is not as good. You can usually pick up a computer mic at Wal-mart for around $10. That is your best bet. It really depends on what you will be using the mic for. I sing alot of karaoke online so I use a regular microphone instead of a computer mic. You can buy these for around $10 too.
