Why does my hp DVD 1040i writer keep reading insert blank disk? hope some one can help out.?

I simply bough these device but when I insert a dvd-r it says insert a blank disc but when I insert a blank cd it read it at first I though I had to use a hp product but after i found out that it supports all dvd, cd-rom, etc., I freshly cant see to it it going, if anyone can help answer my press I would gladly appriciate it.

are you asking the unit to burn a CDR when you really want a DVDR ?? or vise versa? If so, it will be asking for the correct type of disc. CDR's and DVD's are not interchangeable. You cannot register DVD data to a CDR.
Make time easier, install and use Nero. It usually comes in a compact disc bundled w/ a PC or a DVD writer.
