I merely installed a WD Raptor 150gb drive within my computer. Upon spindown it make a "spindown" crack - common?
I've have it for about a week, conceivably a bit more. When I first got it, it didn't construct a noise when I shutdown my computer. But very soon when I shut it down, it makes an almost resembling.braking sound (like it's slowing down from a incredibly fast speed, which is patent, but it's fairly loud and wasn't in that when I first got it).
Is this majority? It only make the noise when I shut down my computer, otherwise it's markedly quiet.
Answer:
I would hold to hear the noise to say-so for sure, but it is normal for it to bring in some noise as it spins down.
Basically, while it is spinning at full speed, it creates an nouns bearing between the spindle and the chassis. Once the spindle slows down departed a certain amount, the atmosphere cushion collapses and the bearing in truth rubs against the chassis. That is what you are hearing.
However, if it sounds similar to it's grinding at all, or the hullabaloo is particularly loud, it could be a sign that something have been undermined.
