Answer:
It will be easier to put up for sale with a functional operating system.
Get UBUNTU (or XUBUNTU if your computer have less than 256MB of RAM).
It's a free, reliable and up to date operating system.
You can explore it from the "LIVE CD".
It's comfortable to install and use. You can dual boot it with other operating systems.
Once you hold it installed, you gain access to thousands of free programs created by the open source community. There is excellent support - see the WIKI starter guide, and the Linux forums.
Always put a bet on up your data in the past making changes to your computer.
When I do it, I walk to start - run- type in CMD - push enter - at the prompt type: format c:
You inevitability system admin rights for doing it with XP or windows2000
If you dont own admin rights, use the original window disk and let it boot up from the cd and do it from within.
Keep in mind, zilch completely erases a hard drive...ably maybe a bubble peen hammer!
use a free software call DBan to create a boot disk. It cleans the hard disk such that the notes on it is irrecoverable
get adjectives your data stale the drive put it in another computer afterwards go into control panel>administrative tools>computer management>disk coordinator then right click and format later do full format
By the way this is a pretty polite way to wipe the drive but the simply way to be guaranteed is to destroy it
There are several ways to format contained by XP:
1 During install
2. Using Diskmanagement under administrative tools
3. Using the rescue console
4. Using start run cmd then the format command.
5. Right click on the drive within explorer and select format.
6. Using a Win98 boot disk
Note: WinXP will not let you mess next to the boot partition or system wall since both contain items required to boot and run WinXP.
Thus, you should use the install process to format system and boot drive.
Here is the easiest way to accomplish a "Clean Install" of XP:
Using Windows XP CD:
1. Insert your XP compact disc in the drive while running your current installation of XP.
2. You will be given some option here. You can select:
oClean Install
oNew Installation
oAdvanced
...and others I believe. But, select "Clean Install".
3. Put a checkmark in the box to "designate where on earth you want to install XP" (or some such dialog). Typically, you will choose to install XP
on your C: drive.
4. Next, you will need to select the directory system you wish to use. I recommend select NTFS as it is more sucure than the FAT32 system.
5. Setup will then format the fence you chose and then you can install XP verbs on that partition. Be sure that if you enjoy more than
one partition, you select the correct one.
6. Install your Windows XP Operating System.
Using Windows 98 Boot Disk:
Get yourself a Windows 98 boot-diskette near fdisk. Delete all partition and THEN boot from the CD. If XP's setup finds formatted part-
itions, it proceeds in need user intervention. If it doesn't find any, setup will prompt you for partitioning and formatting.
Using Floppy Drive:
If you are not able to boot from your CD-ROM, try varying the boot order contained by your BIOS so that your CD-ROM boots first. If you happen
to hold a machine that doesn't proffer a bootable CD-ROM, you can create the 6 boot discs (below) to allow booting from your Floppy
drive.
While it still has it's operating system installed, download a free erasing utility that will over-write information on your unyielding drive many times, at least possible 7 times. Run this. Normally they have an alternative to delete everything on your hard drive. If you are not worried something like data on your concrete drive, just type format c: at the Dos prompt.
It is as simple as anything. Take bootable compact disc or DVD of your operating system. Change setting in BIOS. Select 1st boot device to disc. Restart your system after pushing CD within drive, do what is asked by PC. Another way is simply double click on my computer. Leave 1st drive that may be "C" walk to d drive rt click & choose format, that drive will be formated. You can do it on all drives except "C".
Use DBAN (Darik's Boot and Nuke). Real simple to use, but it can bear a while.
