If you like ATI, after radeon x1600 with 512 mb is a well brought-up mid-card. If you're leaning towards nvidia, after they have some fitting geforces - 7600GS, 7800GS, and others which will all be capable of run Vista when it comes out, as well as play the up-to-the-minute games coming out.
You can choose any video make sure it should support shadow pixel technology.
It is the rationale why7 games don't play even they are comprtability.
Are you looking for PCI Express or AGP or PCI?
If you aren't using PCI-Express then I will own to recommend doing so. AGP's graphic cards are becoming bygone and more expensive that PCI-Express cards.
Going SLI will mostly definitely bring in your fancy! Two graphics cards pushing your gaming power through the roof.

Go next to the high running out for the PCI-Express because eventually you will go SLI (two cards running at impossible to tell apart time). Then you can just bring back another one.
This will cost you less within the long run. I'm running 2 7600gt's on mine and I can't believe I was wanting to stay beside AGP.
You will have to acquire a whole unusual set up though. New processor and motherboard and possible ram. Trust me it's worth the upgrade. So start abiding your money.

The GeForce 7900 series is probably the best fit for your budget. GeForce is known for its level graphics and I personally don't use anything else. Some things to look for however are GDDR3 RAM types and PCI Express chipsets. Whatever you do don't setlle for anything smaller number than 256MB GDDR3, most games run very elevated these days and you don't want to be the one who seize owned.
