Does anyone know how I can use USB drives on Windows 95?

I installed the Terayon software (software needed for my cable modem) on my Windows 95 laptop, but during the installation it said that "this version of window does not support USB drives".

When I got the laptop, it originally had Windows 95 on it.. but it messed up, so I have to reinstall the OS.. but seeing as the system originally had Win95 AND also come with USB drives, you'd guess there's some way to take USB drives to work. So.. does anyone know how I can get USB drives working on my workstation?

Any ideas or guidance would be helpful.

Thanks. :)

The problem w/ Win95 is that USB support be very primitive. You needed a specific interpretation of Win95 AND you needed a USB driver for your specific device -- in this satchel cable modem s/w. http://www.usbman.com/win95%20usb%20guid...

However, since you say you are using a cable modem I assume to connect to your high-speed internet nouns, then the software is surplus to requirements. Simply connect a Cat5e cable from the cable modem to your computer's network card. You should be capable of get on the internet inside 1 minute.

Most of the time (99%+), the cable modem s/w is useless -- same thing w/ DSL software -- totally unnecessary. They bequeath you it in lay down to help you setup your email statement on Outlook Express. But this software isn't necessary to carry on the internet. You can setup Outlook Express manually.

I must warn you that Windows 95 does NOT own a firewall so I highly suggest you purchase a router. I've used adjectives brands: Linksys, Netgear, D-Link, etc. I recommend the Belkin 54g model. It's good, cheap. Do a firmware upgrade as soon as you obtain it.

You could load a software firewall on Win95, but this will seriously embarrass performance and end in it to crash more easily.
to use USB beside windows 95 you call for the OSR2 release or later
Depending on the magazine of 95 you are using, you can download drivers for USB support at the link below. I haven't used them myself so don't know how influential they are.
Isn't it about time to start thinking in the region of an upgrade??

DEAR, YOU DID NOT WRITE THE TYPE OF YOUR PC. IF THERE IS USB PORTS ON YOUR PC (WHERE YOU CAN PLUG YOUR USB DRIVES) THEN YOU CAN USE ANY USB DEVICE WITH YOUR COMPUTER. BUT IF YOU USING WIN 95 THEN YOU NEED DRIVERS OF USB DEVICES FOR EACH DEVICE. UNFORTUNATELY THE MOST OF USB DEVICES SUPPORT WIN 98, WIN ME, WIN 2000 AND WIN XP.
SO YOU NEED TO CHANGE YOUR CPU WITH P3.
GOOD BYE
