Can anyone suggest a apt motherboard that would fit a dell 2400?
Answer:
Your only preference are other dell mobo's that have one and the same pinout. This is due to Dell's proprietary motherboard (non standard)
I believe it's a BTX or micro BTX form factor mobo (or some crazy crap like that)
yea step to makebelievestuff.com and grab yourself a c3p0r2d2transylvania6-5000
mmmm. a Dell MB.
You've get two possible scenarios.
It's any proprietary Dell, in which skin nothing else will fit...
OR
It's a standard ATX (or mini-ATX) contained by which case any ATX or mini-ATX board will fit, which routine just in the region of all of them.
I would suggest the Dell 8300 (which is a contemporary of the 2400 and 4550).
I ponder the 8300 board will fit in the 2400 valise. It goes anywhere from $15 to over $100 plus shipping ($10-$20) on eBay. It have 4 RAM slots and the AGP slot. (There is a server board for an 8300 so you need to check it )
Of course, the 2400 have a P4 2.4 gHz processor (the ones I've seen. almost bought one but go with the 4550, instead) @ 400 mHz FSB, and the 8300 board is an 800 mHz FSB so you might want a faster (up to a 3.4 gHz P4, socket 478) CPU.
The prices are pretty flawless since people enjoy been upgrading to socket 775's and socket 775 Duo Cores. A dual core, socket 775 945 (?) Intel processor be just beneath $100, including the MB (cheap but usually functional MBoard).
The 8300 boards I've bought also use the Intel 875 chipset which is the best 800-family chipset. (Got one in my notably rated ASUS board) I believe there are a few boards out in that that used the 915 and 925 chipsets, but that was while Intel be just starting up the production on the spanking new socket 775 CPU's.
Best of Luck
