Depends on what operating system and programs you use. On Windows XP, you'll see an improvement up to 1024MB, but little after that. On Vista, you'll see improvements up to 2GB, but gain aren't really noticeable after that. If you do establish to upgrade your ram, don't expect it to be the night-and-day difference you get from 256MB -> 512MB.
512 should od fine unless yer into graphics or newer games. you should be able to run up to 1gig, but dont know if you need it.
Another 512 MB will indubitably help...more later that the speed increase will be a smaller steps.
The simple answer is there can never be too much bump on a computer to be helpful but speeds will probably not be as big of an promotion. It really depends on how many processes that you are running

Depends on what you do near your computer. At the moment I have 3 Gigs contained by my computer. I play online games and surf the internet while also having one or two more programs undo. THe extra RAM can either relief your machine to run big program better or run a bunch of programs at matching time

Mostly on what you use the computer for. More RAM will allow more programs to be running at the same time. Any digital video or audio work can typically use as much RAM as it can get hold of.
